Carolina Cryosurgery is dedicated to providing a minimally invasive state-of-the-art therapy for many common painful conditions of the foot such as heel pain, neuromas, bursitis, painful scar tissue and many others conditions.
The cryosurgical unit at Conway Podiatry Center offers a relaxed and comfortable out-patient environment. Most procedures last 15-20 minutes and are performed under local anesthesthesia. Patients are allowed to walk immediately following the procedures and can generally resume regular activities within 24-48 hours. All cryosurgical procedures are performed percutaneously and as a result there is no need for stitches or dressing changes.

Cryosurgery has been around for many years in the pain management world as a method of controlling chronic pain associated with nerve pathology. In the foot, this may take the form of heel pain, plantar fasciitis, neuromas or painful nerve entrapments from previous surgery or injuries. Cryosurgery can also be used as an adjunct therapy in the management of peripheral neuropathies.
The technique involves placing a small probe at the site of discomfort that freezes
the nerves to very low temperatures (4-6 minutes) using compressed nitrous oxide.
This results in degeneration of the nerve and the cessation of painful nerve signals.
This is a pain
management tool that can
provide complete relief for up to 2
years. The procedure can be
repeated if pain returns.
